A native of Brusly, LA, Toby James Hebert comes from a lineage of military service. His great-grandfather served in the Marine Corps and finished his career as a Corporal during Vietnam. His uncle served in the Army Reserve with a tour in Iraq, and his late first-cousin served in the Marine Corps.
“Since I was a young child, I always talked about serving my country,” says Toby. “From hearing stories from my great-grandfather to attending my uncle’s basic training graduation. Besides thinking it is the most honorable thing a person can do to give back, I have also always had a passion to serve my community.”
Toby enlisted in the Army in 2016, completing basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After that, he was assigned to the 498th transportation company out of Mobile, Alabama, where he received his license certifications and convoy experience. In November of 2017, he was transferred to the 321st sustainment brigade in Baton Rouge, overseeing recovery plans and putting them into action in the field as well doing routine maintenance and vehicle repairs. Toby trained at various bases across the U.S. including Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, Camp Shelby in Mississippi, and Fort Polk in Louisiana. He recently transferred from the Army Reserve to the Mississippi National Guard.
He served in three units and two different bodies of the Army and is still currently serving as a Sergeant/E-5. His ultimate goal is participating in SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection) and attending SFQS (Special Forces Qualification Course).
Toby also has a vast construction skillset. He’s worked as a pipefitter, combo welder, project supervisor, and maintenance planner. He joined Performance in 2021 where he now works as a Project Services Coordinator.
He brings military-cultivated values into his work at Performance: integrity, discipline, and accountability. “I’ve always pushed for my soldiers to develop and learn — educating them at every turn so they can choose the best path. I use that knowledge in my role in Performance,” says Toby. “I must take care of the guys in the field the same way. When they hit roadblocks and need questions answered, I do my best to get those answers.”
“Between on-the-job training and support in learning new skills, Performance offers great opportunities for veterans to build lifelong careers,” says Toby. “With Performance, I have always felt supported not just in the fact that management stands behind what they say, but also support what we do and the sacrifices we make.”
Outside of work, Today describes himself as an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing. He also spends a lot of time working with metal, building and maintaining rifles, and spending time with his wife and kids.
