Even from an early age, Steven Gill knew that he was called to serve his country. Following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather who served in World War I, he understood the importance of serving his country and the value of the lifelong bonds he would forge with his brothers in arms.
Steven served in the U.S. Army from July 2018 through June 2022. During his four-year stint as a member of the military, he was stationed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky as a member of the 34th MP detachment. Throughout that time, he learned what it truly means to serve. All along the way he learned the intangible values of discipline and respect that have transformed him and the way that he conducts himself every day on the job.
Once he finished his service, Steven took a step that felt very natural to him and found work in the construction industry. His father, who works as a project manager in the industry, got him started. A short time later, a friend recommended Performance where Steven now works as a Journeyman Ironworker.
He has leveraged his military training here at Performance to adapt to his new surroundings and overcome the challenges of beginning a new role at a new company. He thrives in his daily work as an Ironworker because he can look back at the end of the day, see the physical work he has done and be proud of the quality that he did it with.
“Performance is a good company that loves and supports their vets,” says Steven, encouraging others to explore Performance as a potential workplace after their military service comes to an end. While he may be a relatively newer member of the team, Steven has already proved to be a crucial part of the Performance team and credits a large part of the quality he brings to the team to his time in the military.
When he’s off the clock, Steven enjoys getting out on the water both for fishing and water sports, as well as taking advantage of every hunting season that Louisiana has to offer.
