From the halls of Fort Benning to the industrial sites of Performance Contractors, Jose Macias has always embraced the values of service and dedication. After completing four years of military service as an E-4 Specialist in the U.S. Army, Jose brought his leadership skills and commitment to excellence to the construction industry, where he continues to make an impact.
His military service left a lasting mark on Jose’s life. "The camaraderie you have with your fellow brothers is something that cannot be matched," Jose said. "The sense of purpose and accountability one has when serving gives you the true feeling of being part of a team."
Just as his brother’s military service inspired his enlistment, Jose’s path to construction was shaped by his family ties. His father's background in the industry sparked his interest in industrial construction. Today, as a System Turnover (STO) Manager with 10 years at Performance, Jose brings the valuable lessons learned during his military service to his leadership role.
"I try to utilize the leadership skills that were instilled into me in my daily tasks at Performance," said Jose. "My military training gave me the needed confidence to communicate difficult conversations that need to happen when you're in a position of leadership."
Jose credits the ease of his transition from military to civilian life to Performance's supportive environment. "Performance has a real emphasis on teaching people that are new to the industry," Jose explained. "That is something that helped me adjust to the transition."
Jose brings core military values to his work every day: "If you're going to do something, do it right. Always do the right thing even when no one is looking." This alignment of values makes Performance an ideal workplace for veterans, according to Jose. "Performance is a company that believes in what it stands for – they fully support veterans. Just like the military, if you put in the hard work, it will pay off."
When he's not at work, Jose is a family-oriented person who enjoys watching the Astros with his loved ones. He's also passionate about continuous learning, often researching new topics to expand his knowledge – a habit that serves him well in both his personal and professional life.
