At Performance, we take great pride in the veterans who are part of our team. Their dedication, discipline, and leadership bring immense value to our company culture and projects. This month, we are honored to highlight John Ables, a veteran with 27 years of military service across the Marine Corps and the Air Force, now serving as a key member of our EHS Department.
John’s journey in the military began when he enlisted in the Marine Corps, inspired by friends who had already joined and a recruiter who was persistent in showing him the opportunities service could offer. Over the years, John served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, transitioned into recruiting, and eventually built a career in the Air Force where he specialized in safety leadership and chaplaincy.
“The military shaped who I am today,” John says. “It gave me the opportunity to travel, meet incredible people, and develop leadership skills that have guided my entire career.”
When John transitioned into civilian life, he sought out a company that valued teamwork and integrity—principles he had upheld throughout his service. After hearing from colleagues about the culture at Performance, he joined the team, bringing his strong safety leadership experience to our projects. Today, John plays a crucial role in conducting corporate safety audits and ensuring our teams operate at the highest standards.
John believes the values instilled in him by the military—Integrity, Honor, and Service before self—are just as important in construction as they are in the armed forces. His work not only impacts job site safety but also strengthens the leadership culture within our company.
“I truly appreciate how much Performance supports its veterans,” John shares. “The camaraderie here reminds me of my time in the service. And the fact that we are encouraged to pray as a company means a lot to me.”
When he’s not at work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and family, volunteering at church, traveling, riding motorcycles, and watching football.
We are honored to have John on our team and grateful for his service—both to our country and to our company.
