LyondellBasell has awarded Performance Contractors, Inc. as the General Contractor for the Hyperzone Project in La Porte, TX. With construction starting in May and the plant scheduled for startup in 2019, the Hyperzone plant will be capable of the production of 1.1 billion pounds (500,000 metric tons) of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) annually, employing new proprietary Hyperzone PE technology by LyondellBasell that offers enhanced material performance. Resulting in a lighter, stronger, and better plastic for the environment than the current market has ever seen, this durable polyethylene will be used for piping, industrial bulk containers, fuel tanks, and other products that require sturdy material. The Hyperzone plant is only the first project in a series of major investments being made in the USA gas to liquids market.
