Greene County Vo-Tech welding and mechanic students recently traveled to Kansas City competing in the National Skills USA competitions. More than 300,000 students and advisors join Skills USA annually, organized into more than 17,000 sections in 52 different states. Skills USA has served more than 11.2 million members since its founding in 1965.
Skills USA mission is to empower its members to become world class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens. Skills USA is an applied method of instruction for preparing America's high performance workers in public career and technical programs. This years national-level attendance for students competing was just over 5,900 students.
Greene County Vo-Tech's welding students competed in the Welding Fabrication competition against 28 other states and placed 5th respectively, along with them was the mechanic students who competed in the Prepared Speaking category and placed an outstanding 11th place out of 39 states competing. The welding students were supported strongly by Southern Pines Energy Center and Performance Contractors, along with all the many others that contributed through donations and purchase of chicken plates. A special thanks goes out to all who contributed and made their trip possible.
