The latest in a long line of continuous innovations and challenges to the status quo, Performance Contractors recently overhauled and improved welder testing through the addition of in-house, hands-on weld test labs. By creating a space internally that allowed for more stringent, regimented testing and examination, Performance took control of quality and set the bar above that typical of the industry standard.
Up until recently, Performance’s hands-on weld testing was outsourced on par with the rest of the industry. Already doing in-house, hands-on testing for other classifications, bringing welding in was a natural next step to further enhance and control quality. With enhanced requirements for what is considered “passing” this qualification, Performance is taking a keener, closer look at quality control to ensure customers receive nothing but the best from every part of the Performance work portfolio, and the benefits can be seen in the reduced weld rejection rates after implementing this new testing protocol at every single regional office.
With a closer eye on the testing thanks to these new, in-house testing facilities, Performance can more easily identify potential team members who display the right work ethic and attitude for future employment even if they do not pass this particular test. From there, Performance is able to recommend best options to receive additional training, mentor them along their career path, or suggest them for another role within the company.
Another part of what sets Performance apart in QA/QC is their Quality Flawless Execution Plan (QFEP). This tool was designed to help engage the site supervisor with the site QCs to develop unique quality plans for each specific task. It is a simple, streamlined communication tool that Performance has designed to provide all pertinent information and minimize confusion so that the task can be done right the first time.
The evidence that these new policies and procedures are paying off can also be seen in the way that our employees are being recognized on a national scale. At this year’s ABC National Craft Championships, several of our welders showcased their ability and represented Performance at the highest level, including:
- Edgar Uresti, Pipefitting
- Javan Hill, Structural Welding
- Kanyun Hoffpauir, Structural Welding
- Juan Mercado, Structural Welding
- Michael Martinez, Pipe Welding
- Caleb Kidder, Pipe Welding
- Jacques Pecquet, Millwright
We’re proud to produce the best quality work for our customers, and train our workers to be the best that they can be as they earn the recognition they deserve for national excellence.
